What do you like about being in the wedding industry?
We have met so many incredible locals through our heli wedding services – photographers, officiants, videographers, planners, florists and so many more. During covid, heli elopements rapidly increased in popularity so it was very special to be able to provide an option for our customers (and subsequently their vendors) that could still continue!
How does your company keep up with the industry?
While heli weddings have been around for many years, they were few and far between up until a couple years ago. As we saw in increase in our Rainbow Glacier elopements prior to covid, we began to look into what other locations we could provide within our tenure. We now offer 5 very different locations for our couples to choose from throughout the Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton backcountry. Remote alpine lakes, jaw-dropping mountain peaks, and even glaciers.
What makes your transportation company different from others?
Our extensive tenure in the Whistler region means we have access to some of the most beautiful and remote backcountry locations for our couples!
What’s your favorite part of a wedding?
Sharing the beauty of our region with couples looking for an adventurous and breathtaking experience.
What changes do you anticipate in the future within the industry?
I think the appeal of elopements will stick around! We’re definitely seeing a decline compared to covid years as people return to larger weddings – but the appeal and popularity of elopements is still really high!
What wedding trend would you like to see come back?
Last-minute elopements. They’re perfect for a heli-wedding and the local vendors love them!
Is there anything you would like people to know about Blackcomb Helicopters?
We carbon offset 100% of business operations. We have done this for 3 years now and will continue to constantly seek improvements in our industry to become more environmentally friendly. Our offsets go toward Nature Conservancy Canada and their large-scale conservation efforts and couples even have the option of doubling their carbon contribution when they book their wedding.
